AUSTRALIAN BUSHFIRE
One of the worst seasons of bushfire burning has happened in Australia. These deadly wildfires are showing no signs of stopping, with record-breaking temperatures and severe drought. Since September, fires have been seen in Australia that have contributed to the death of many individuals, thousands are left stranded (homeless) and millions of animals are killed. As the fire has spread to all areas of Australia, both domestically and globally, there has been considerable media attention. In this post, we're going to tell you more about what's happening in Australia, the effects of climate change, its effects, and much more.
Australia Wildfires
Bushfire isn't what Australia is witnessing for the first time, but yeah, it's worse than average this year. Fire is typically triggered either by lightning or by sparks. It also begins purposefully at times. It ends with the passing of time as fire begins purposely.
Is climate change the cause of bushfires in Australia?
The dry spells around the country have resulted in a natural weather situation known as the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD). There is an irregular sea temperature oscillation in this, in which the Indian Ocean becomes alternately warmer and the ocean's eastern portion gets colder. That's why Australia is getting hotter. On 18 December, the maximum temperature recorded this year was 41.9 celsius. Scientists and specialists from the meteorological department have also suggested that drier conditions leads to more severe fires.
Australia's fire season has resulted in hundreds of people being killed and numerous buildings being burned. Ecologists have reported that, due to the spread of wildfires, over one billion birds, reptiles and mammals have died in New South Wales alone. Around six million hectares of forests in New South Wales and Victoria will be destroyed at the beginning of 2020.
Measures taken by Government
Water and fire retardants are sprayed by Australian firefighters through helicopters and planes on the ground. It is not easy to fight bushfires, so the government focuses on preventing the spread of fire rather than extinguishing the fire. Thousands of firefighters from around the world, including the United States, Canada, and New Zealand, have sent aid to stop the burning of the country. Police, navy and military officials of Australia are constantly involved in rescuing and evacuating the people out there.
