Delhi Pollution

Image
Delhi is unable to breathe! The thick grey haze that has enveloped the territory of the National Capital has left all of India concerned. The Delhi Air Quality Index recently shot up to 494, (severe). People with respiratory difficulties are being taken to hospitals, schools are closed and flights have been cancelled. Child Labour

Image
Did you ever wonder why a 10-year-old boy sells bread late at night when he's supposed to sleep in his bed so he can go to school the next day? If you haven't done this yet, well... I've got it. Around 9:00 p.m. I was leaving from visiting my family when unexpectedly a child comes after us asking, "Do you want cinnamon rolls? I have for sale!" I turned around instantly and was outraged by the picture in front of me. I was standing watching it trying to process it. "I told someone who was with us, "What's a kid doing here in these late hours, working? He ought to be sleeping at home! ". The response I got was not the one I expected, because at that moment I really thought this person was expressing the same outrage as me, but obviously this was not the case. Too much touched my heart. I learned from that moment that many of us sometimes neglect issues to the point that they become 'natural' stuff. But what, you know? My inner urge to do

FRIENDSHIP

Image
We are all aspiring to form friendships from a young age, to experience the special moment of 'oh yeah, you get me' as kindred souls meet, cautiously at first then instinctively cementing a life-long friendship. It is indeed a blessing to have even one friend at two o'clock in the morning, to call without fear of interruption in moments of need, fear, sorrow or even celebration. The question of friends has been on my mind this week as her birthday was celebrated by a beloved and very close friend. The nostalgic and poignant quotes struck a chord with me as I bombarded her email with birthday messages, some posted here today. Only our true friends know us to the heart, to the inner concerns, to the movies and to the books that carry us to the laughter of tears. Only young, lifelong friends know the 'all' us, school activities, adolescence, teenage years that are so instrumental in shaping today's individual. Only with them do you recall the broken hearts of you

Amazon Forest Fire

Image
At an unprecedented pace, the Amazon forest is burning up. NASA's satellite images display destructive fires in the Amazon between Paraguay and Brazil's borders. The photos come just a week after Jair Bolsonaro's government fired the director of the National Space Research Institute (INPE) of Brazil in the midst of a dispute over its satellite results. The photos revealed an increase in Amazon deforestation, vigorously denied and dismissed as "lies" by the far-right government.              Source: NASA's satellite image showing the fires between the border of Paraguay and Brazil If the current fires were purposely set or whether they are a result of rising temperatures is still uncertain. Data released by INPE and other environmental organizations reveals that the Amazon is currently burning in Brazil at an unprecedented pace. 72,843 fires were detected this year, an 83 percent rise over the same duration in 2018. Since the INPE began recording them in 2013

Cyclone Amphan

Image
The 4th was in the middle of India. Extended Lockdown phase (from 18 May to 31 May 2020) on 20 May 20 afternoon due to Corona Virus COVID-19, Amphan, a super cyclone hit the eastern Indian city of Kolkata and six districts of the state of West Bengal. The eastern Indian town of Kolkata was devastated by a powerful cyclone that killed at least 86 people in the districts and towns of Kolkata. The city experienced such a ferocious storm for the first time in centuries. On Wednesday, Amphan made landfall, lashing coastal areas with ferocious rain and wind. As projected, with gales and rain, it entered the city at about 2-30Pm. I was trying to see from the side of the balcony where there was less wind pressure. The front balcony door and window on the main road had too much wind pressure. With so much sound and rain, the heavy wind made us sit inside the room. We heard breaking window panes somewhere in such a scenario and then heard a great sound of something falling. He walked out to the

In spite of the final result in the history of cricket, the 1983 World Cup is now known as one of the most astonishing tournaments. India emerged as the underdog and the rise of Indian Cricket was finally marked by this World Cup. In spite of the final result in the history of cricket, the 1983 World Cup is now known as one of the most astonishing tournaments. India had won just one match in the previous two World Cups, and against East Africa too, the minnows who qualified after playing the ICC Trophy. The team was founded by cricketers from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia. Interestingly, that was also the Indian cricket team's first victory in One Day cricket. In 1979, they even lost to Sri Lanka, the island nation that did not ha

Virat King Kohli

In the last 5 chases in T20's prior to this game, Kohli was averaging 106. And today, in this Ind vs Aus World T20 match, after an injured Yuvraj worked to 21 and was dismissed by Faulkner in the 14th over, it was over to the captain (Dhoni) and vice-captain. With 39 of 18 deliveries required, it seemed like a hairy end was approaching. The next thirteen balls read 4 4 6 2 1 2 0 4 4 0 4 4 4.Of these, Dhoni played only 2 and scored 6, including the winning boundary. A deviation from the normal punch in the air and raised bat celebration, Kohli sank to the ground as the ball crossed the line, testifying how this chase had tested his temperament, but he managed to come out on top.
